As a candid kids photographer I get to have way more fun than studio photographers. Don’t get me wrong, I love the studio. I used a studio for years. But when kids are between two and five years old the chances of a fun studio photo session are really hit and miss. These candid kids at play sessions are not perfect. They do however have a higher rate of success with this age. Letting kids play at a favorite park or at home removes the awkward new place look. It also relaxes them to be kids.
Outdoor candid photo sessions allow for less intrusive photography that keeps kids from getting shy too. I generally like to throw a long lens on one camera and a mid range lens on my other camera and just let the kids play and have fun. These two guys today were so easy and so much fun. I love weddings, I love family photography, but on days like this I really really love being a candid kids photographer.
